Let me guess – Mr. Makridis will be extolling the virtues of blockchain technology and how it’s going to save us all from fraud? How quaint. Meanwhile, in reality, cryptocurrency continues to attract scammers, hackers, and other ne’er-do-wells like bees to honey. But hey, at least we have some fancy new protocols emerging that’ll supposedly help prevent misreporting scandals involving millions of dollars. Because what’s a little transparency when you can just hide it behind ‘transaction amount privacy’ and ‘organization-auditor unlinkability’? Sounds like more smoke and mirrors from the crypto crowd to me. And don’t even get me started on scalability – we all know that layer-2 solutions are just Band-Aid fixes for deeper problems, not actual solutions. But hey, at least it’s something, right? The economics of designing adequate incentives to prevent wrongdoing and promote trust still seems like a major hurdle though… guess you can’t have too much of a good thing when the whole point is to make money off people who don’t know any better.
