Lyell Champagne Jr., a Missouri resident with all the charm of a damp sock, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a cryptocurrency and tax fraud scheme. Because, you know, nothing says ‘get rich quick’ like stealing from people online and filing false tax returns. But hey, at least he got to enjoy some quality time with Kristian Gupta, his co-conspirator who’s still awaiting sentencing in September. The two of them were quite the dynamic duo – Champagne used victims’ personal info to open email accounts and transfer funds to cryptocurrency exchanges, while Gupta provided him with said info because… well, that’s just what friends are for! And let’s not forget about ‘Shireberk International’, a company so nonexistent it might as well be called ‘CryptoBro Inc.’ – Champagne submitted false tax returns for this alleged business from 2018 to 2021 and managed to scam the government out of $3,449,935.
